Can't open Xcode for viewing???

I just got my ios developers account activated, so I tried to download Xcode 4. However, it said I wasn't allowed to because I wasn't a member. (?) Then I went to the ios provisioning portal and downloaded version 3.2.6. When I finished installing, I tried to open it, but it said this version of xcode was incompatible with my mac's version (10.6.8).

What should I do to get it working?

    Update: tried xcode 4 (it allowed me in now).

    The same problem persists though.

    Anyone???

    Check with the developer to make sure Xcode works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X.

    This report will automatically be sent to apple.

    That's the message. I've installed and reinstalled 6 times now.
