That's a loaded question but out of the list I use Photoshop CS5 the most. I use LineForm for my vector stuff and for pre-rendered 3d art I use mainly Luxology Modo and Pixologic Zbrush...if only there was 3d support in GS...that would be my dream game engine lol

Hey guys, The most expensive software and the highest quality tablet does not make you a great artist.

(to answer your question though, I use photoshop and a Wacom tablet. Just wanted to share this info with you guys cause I don't want anyone thinking they will not be able to create great graphics if they don't have certain tools)

A person who understands the fundamentals of design can paint the Mona Lisa in Microsoft Paint.

Graphic design is the art of orchestrating imagery, typefaces, colors, shapes and other visual elements and conducting these elements into a harmonious, visually compelling message, the ultimate goal of which is triggering an emotive response from your audience.

There are many elements to design that must be carefully considered. One of the most important and often overlooked of these is color. It is a common mistake to choose a color for a design based on personal preference. As a designer, one must always remember that colors are evocative and therefore possess a great deal of persuasive power.

I would suggest watching some videos on art fundamentals:

    Composition - Visual Storytelling
    Visual balance
    Perspective

And most of all, alot alot alot of practice. With pencil and paper.

So true, Thank You sooo much !!!!

I can make more with other tools but it is better to have someone get a small starting point try everything else themselves so I only put in the air brush tool for a good starting point. I will show more things in the gimp tutorial because gimp it 100x more complicated.
I know it's not a great sky, but I am just showing you a starting point.

I speak from experience, I watched a couple tutorials of xara xtreme on youtube and for about a month, I just did exactly what they did in the tutorial without trying anything new and that's the main reason I only showed you one tool.

    thank you

What is the cheapest way to get illustrator?
  • BlackbirdStudiosBlackbirdStudios Member Posts: 493
If you are a student, then the teacher and student edition is the cheapest way. But you can't cheat the system, you really have to be an actual student or teacher to get the software at that price.

P.S. I use Illustrator and Photoshop
