•• Gamesalad Creator Redesign Suggestions

edited December 2011 in Working with GS (Mac)
Hi everyone! I noticed recently that Gamesalad's website is in the mood for renovations, and it is looking pretty good.
The Gamesalad creator app itself however, has been stuck with default buttons and icons for a while. Maybe this could stir up some ideas for a slicker and more stylish application? Any comments on my work is appreciated.

You can check out the proposed design here: http://cl.ly/1D0N1W3I260a2u1v3z0S

Oh thanks! Hmm, noticed I accidentally hid the back/forward buttons before I saved that one. This link has everything all proper:

EDIT: I edited your post so the image shows up in this post [mynameisace]

i was actually thinking to start a post like this, but didn't because with all things crowd sourced, it'll just end up muddled... it'd be best if they hire a firm that specialize in interface .. and pay them a few hundred grand (yes that's how much it cost to have it done professionally/properly)

Just remember gamesalad is still in beta. I would guess that theres changes coming to the interface, there just trying to get all the main bells and whistles worked out first before they focus on appearence. (which im glad there doing it that way)

    cheers

Does anyone know who designed the current interface for Gamesalad?

A thing I thought would be cool. The blue one is selected / clicked.

I know many of us have been pushing for a more fluid workflow in the interface design, I'm hoping that the new skin has been going on behind the scene waiting for the big 1.0 version release. A man can dream can't he?

I was thinking some ideas the other day. Look at Pixelmator, and how you use panels for your tools. One clean window is your canvas. Now imagine GameSalad, the main window houses your scene, with a clean overlaying grid. Then you have several translucent panels on your desktop - separate format the main window - that contain all your images, actors, sound and your list of attributes. Instead of having all your stuff cramped in one massive window, you can customize and arrange your resources just by dragging them around. I thought that would be a much nicer way to build your scenes.

That would be cool maybe an "apple" style effect where you click the symbol for it in the tabs bar and the window for that appears and you click again and it disappears

I've noticed that importing and managing images is a bit of a pain. For instance, if you try to delete majorly used image in your game, GS will just delete it. Image gone, every single actor that used it? Corrupt with a lovely purple and black placeholder. Some dialog telling you that this will happen would be pretty helpful. Also, who has had the problem of your game size rising up to 200% due to multiple copies of images? Multiple images should be easily found and reviewed for deleting the unused one.

It would be really cool if we had a pop out preview area...

I don't think its the interface that needs to change, i like it, very simple and logical to use ... However, what it does need is more features and then the appropriate symbols to use them. Things like layers is really a feature request, if it got granted then there would be somewhere you go to access it.
There once was almost a pop out preview, it allowed to test and change quicker, not sure why they done away with it.

I would like the creator Ui to more like photoshop and illustarator. In regards to moving things around. I would love to have the actual scene on one monitor and all the tools and stuff on a seperate monitor. 2 monitors as 1 big monitor. Monitor 1 tools Monitor 2 actual view screen
