Tables question. Bejeweled?

I believe I once read with tables it is possible to make a bejeweled like game.
Is this possible with gs now or do we need writable tables?

Thanks. I have still totb3 contest game lying around that could make good use of this. But I want to release it in the summer so it can wait.
