Kindle Fire Question

harlin36harlin36 Member Posts: 101
Hi All,

Does anyone know if it's possible to test games on the Kindle Fire in the uk?. I am considering buying one from ebay but if I can't test my games it
would be a waste of money.

I am only looking to release games on Android tablets rather than phones, so what are the cheapest options for Android tablets for testing purposes?

Sorry for asking dumb questions but I only just stumbled into the 21st century!

Cheers.

I am in the uk and have a kindle fire which I got from the US. It is running on a US account (my brother's) and this seemed to have helped as I needed to get the free easy app installer to be able to get the viewer working on the fire. There is a problem if you don't have a use address or account linked to one as then it could be very difficult to install the viewer with out the tool. it may be possible but I am not sure how.

    @harlin26 and @old_kipper ... it is totally possible without a US account, you can do it via USB, i had a mare originally but with the below discussion should be straightforward enough;

It really sucks it's not out here in the UK yet. I heard rumours of an end of Jan release - obviously not. Will be lucky to get it Feb or March. I'll be using the Kindle Fire as well as for testing purposes, so not so keen on getting a US one :(

Yeah I'm 50/50 about getting a US import or playing the waiting game.

The Samsung galaxy tab is very much the same as the kindle I have a kindle and my friend tested for me on his tab as well. If you get the tab with the same size screen as Kindle.

I got my Fire strictly for testing purposes, it has the viewer on it fine :) I originally installed via usb as mentioned above, i then downloaded a free file browser as an apk on the mac, i then used the same usb method to install that, now i can just email my adhoc games to my gmail and use the file browser to install it. Works great :) I cannot access the Amazon store which is annoying but as long as i can test my games I'm happy.

Yep, here it is. What we like is Kate's Golden Books are still sold on Amazon so it gives us great cross promotion.

Not available for the Kindle? I think i read somewhere once accepted for Amazon it has an additional review for Kindle and you don't get notified if and when they approve it
  • The_Gamesalad_GuruThe_Gamesalad_Guru Member Posts: 9,922
The email said they might do a separate review. They weren't specific on that. I. Haven't looked in my kindle to see as it just went live sometime last night. One other note, Amazon slightly edited our product description, although we had no objections to the content of the editing they did not use it as we submitted it.

I can't check on my kindle as being in the uk the shop doesn't work. However, my device is registered to my account and when i go to your link, next to my device is X where as others have a tick.

yeah just checked it's not up there yet. Will let you know when and if or if we hear from Amazon on the fire. Okay, so from what I've read it takes about a week after you get approved to get through the fire review and if you're accepted they don't send out an email. You only get an email if you don't pass the review process for fire.

I decided on a 7" Galaxy tab in the end as it has the same resolution as the Kindle and I was concerned that I wouldn't have any support for the Fire (updates and stuff).

What do I need to do to convert my iPhone games to T ablet/Android?

the best way to test is to load the apk via email. forget the viewer. you can do this anywhere in the world
  • The_Gamesalad_GuruThe_Gamesalad_Guru Member Posts: 9,922
I just load mine via usb and same with apple stuff I do adhoc. I don't waste my time with the viewer.
  • beefy_clyrobeefy_clyro Member Posts: 5,394
Emailing yourself doesn't always work, quite often you can error along the lines of 'cannot parse the package'. Therefore the file browser has been great for that.

yes i agree with @fryingbaconstudios i do the same thing. never use the viewer. it forces you to be more disciplined and you also see how your app behaves in the real world
