PM's are pretty much pointless!

It seems that sending PM's to people are pointless. They never get answered or if they do it took forever to get a response. Have sent out about 3 and have yet to get a response. I wish people would look at their PM"s more ofter and answer them if they can be answered. Thats all!

thanks,

    understand. Then what would you suggest if I have an important question. I need help with something and I sent a pm to you and a couple other GS members and still needing help with it. I totally agree that a better system is needed!

    Thanks

    I will post my question up on the forums again and see if it gets answered. It didn't get answered when I put it up there the first time but I will try again.

    Thanks,

    @ozboybrain QS is fearsome beast and should only be approached with serious questions, meat product, and kittens. And though he can write awesome prose, and make even more awesome games he can't read the font they use for PMs (without a special magnifying glass adapted for cloven hooves).

    I think there should be some info that you have a new PM - like pop-up window, or at least a new message counter in any corner of the page.
    But I can understand that people who get many PMs, like tshirtbooth, wouldn't like a pop-up window everytime they enter the forums.

    I like them...
    They're for discussing Private business between two users or between a head chef and a customer...

    I would recommend commet chat as a new system.. it works with vanilla forums....
  • IsabelleKIsabelleK Member, Sous Chef Posts: 2,807
    Chat? I don't like this idea - now if someone has a problem, he write a question on the forums - so other users, who also have the same problem, can read it. If we have a forum, most of the users will be asking those questions there, not giving others a chance to learn.
    But maybe I'm wrong.

    Sorry not the chat part of comet chat... Im talking about comet PM's
    Comet chat is the name of the company... they also have chat software... I'm talking about the "Pm" software...

    Oh, I get it know :) Excuse me for this misunderstanding.

    :P Chat would be a crap idea....
    Excuse me! I didn't explain it properly..

    @LeonardDeveloper chat is not c*** in my opinion. networking with friends or those of similar interest is great socially and a far faster, sequential , and a reliable way of getting problems solved on projects. It is a loss to the forums generally as the knowledge is lost to the masses but with so much noise and frequent repetition it can be quiet oasis.

    @old_kipper
    Then whats the point of the forums... If you want to chat with your GS buddies use Skype! :)

    Just a quick observation on my part: I've been on at least 5 forums in the past, on a regular basis, and I can safely say this is most busy and lively forum out of all of them. :-)

    Great to hear as well, @SaladStraightShooter , re: a better messaging system; even the word Messages with the amount of messages unread in the drop down menus of our names would be useful!

    @gyroscope +1 .... an active community is hard to build .. look at the other forums started by GS users. The moderation here is mostly well done and the GS team participation and allowing threads to express opinions is solid. I think a divided forum would kill this off, and at some point even those asking for it would regret it. Worts and all this is the best community I have seen.

    Heh, this thread reminded me to check my private messages.

    I still think that vBulletin would have been a better move.

    @RKS
    vBulletin, at least the standard version, is hideous. Just saying.
    It didn't seem to stop the near 700,000 members from joining up at MacRumors... http://forums.macrumors.com/

    Oh so now you care about design and not speed? vBulletin is fast and it does the job great!, Who cares if it looks like crap... You can always design and upload a theme for it....

    I think there should be a forum where you tell certain people to check their pm's. I know it sounds stupid but I'm saying if you send somebody a PM because you need to tell them or talk to them without using the forums they need to see there PM's. And I know theres people like Tshirt and stuff but I still think there should be one. Because if you do @someone it tags them in the post and will kinda be like a reminder to check yours. And then simply for people that get too many PM's could just easy enough not check them. Do you guys like this idea?
