app rejected because it displays an ad at the beginning :/ I am not a pro member so I can't publish?

Like the title says, I FINALLY finished my app last week and sent it off to apple. Today I got a rejection letter saying it got rejected because users are forced to watch an ad at the beginning.

I think I could make it free and get it approved, but then I can't make any money from it, so how the heck am I supposed to get the pro version if there is no way for me to make money?

I'd much rather see the GS logo at the beginning and still be able to make some money rather than not being able to publish my apps at all.

@TheMenOfHonor Please send all of the information about your app Listing including the rejection email to GameSalad through the feedback link. This is something a few reviewers are doing for no apparent reason. GameSalad has been working with Apple and playhaven on the rejected apps but there are tons of published paid apps that display the playhaven ad.

I hope this is the right place, the rejection letter is below:

We found that your app requires customers to view advertisements prior to using it, which is inconsistent with the recommendations in the iOS Human Interface Guidelines. Complying with the iOS Human Interface Guidelines is required by the App Store Review Guidelines.

"People use your application to get things done or to be entertained; they don’t want to feel as if they’re being forced to watch an advertisement."

"In iOS 4.0 and later, you can allow advertisements to display within your application and you can receive revenue when users see or interact with them. It’s essential that you plan when and how to integrate ads with your UI so that people are motivated to view them without being distracted from your application."

It would be appropriate to remove the forced advertising and upload your new binary to iTunes Connect. If you wish to deliver ads to your users, consider offering passive advertising; paying customers typically expect advertising-free content.

the right place for this would be in the existing thread you have on this issue.

    Merging now.

Also send this into GameSalad. The is no use stirring up a bunch of Playhaven Hate headache for the Community managers when for the most part this affects only free users and only a handful at that. Until GameSalad tells you your just S**T outta luck cause you got a crappy reviewer let them work with you to solve the problem.

    Okey dokey..
As you may recall my app got rejected for this very reason & the accessing of udid
My app (The same one) has yet again got rejected because of the ad at the start..
I frankly don't give a crap whether "John" the reviewer likes it and the forty other reviewers don't like it.... When apple make a change, They make a change...
We need a change from you guys fast, We can't publish
And at the moment as tenrdrmer said... if Gs is basing this on bad and good reviewers I think that just means we're all S**T out of luck....

@saladstraightshooter .. how about putting an attribute that counts the number of times the game is played and after 1 or 2 then Playhaven starts showing? Maybe with some knowledge of how Apple tests this might work, just to get past the couple of test plays Apple reviewers might do?

No offence but making apps is a business and as such all ventures require some kind of capitalization. Find a way to borrow or earn the $300 to invest in your app development venture. This is how the world works, it like saying, I want to have a repair shop but I want you to pay for my tools so I can fix your car. I'm tired of the complaining, this is how life is, you have to find ways to make things happen for yourself. I work a regular job and also have my development company, it's just how it is and I don't begrudge the fact I still have to work another job it's just how life is. When my apps can make me enough to pay my bills, then I can do it full time but for now I know the road to success is hard and requires a tough constitution. I am fully prepared to do what I must to succeed and I don't expect GS to make that happen it's all up to me and no one else.

You gotta spend money to make money!

Worst Case If apple is rejecting these because they are paid apps. Submit them as free and change the price once the app is approved

Does that work? I'm sending my game to Apple in a few days and I hope I don't get rejected.

And don't forget : we've already spent money to make money, since a macbook and an Ipod or Iphone cost money ;), and only after I make some money with my games I'm going Pro!

This app is now in iTunes.

I don't think you can go from a free app to a paid app anyways - plus it would still have to be reviewed in either case. You cold make a free app into another submission (with another name) but again it would have to go through review.
I got the exact same rejection message so, I'm asking, if I buy the Pro license will it make the ads go away or do the ads stay and I get a percentage?
For the record - my first app was accepted without comment (with the ad), my second was rejected (because of the ad). Both were paid apps. (iTunes)

I had one of my Apps rejected and as stated above the solution is to set it to Free and once it is approved change it to paid. This solved my issue and my app was approved.

i keep hearing this "once i make all the money using game salad then i will buy game salad!" statements. wouldn't it be nice if everything worked that way! but really, if you are able to make all this cash with game salad free.. why would those people every go pro.. i mean if free is raking in the cash.

i think it would be good if GS made someway where paid aps with free version of GS was against terms of the engine.

I think the solution would be letting Free users receive a small portion of Playhaven generated ads (30% for example). That way, they'll feel they're not giving away their time and work and eventually become pro someday. If not, it's a win-win. Win for Gamesalad as more free people would launch games, and win for them because they will receive something in exchange.

Apple has a lot of people who reviews the apps. Some of them won't accept somethings.

For example, my game was accepted for iPad, and the same game with the same graphics, but for iphone, was not accepted due to "realistic violence". So, different thinkings,

@petercoupe You can change price around on your iTunes all you want free one day $100 the next even. There isno review process for price changes so yes it does work.

@rhinokey honestly I don't think that's really that bad of an idea. GameSalads slogan is game creation for everyone not game profiting for everyone. It will never happen though so I guess in reality it would be awesome if people would stop expecting the world for free. If you don't want gamesalad to make a minuscule amount of money off your games then you need to invest the insanely low cost of pro to get thier hands out of your pocket so to speak. They are not charging you to use thier software which at this point has cost multiple millions to produce I would bet. And they have to pay for it some how. If your a free user they are allowing playhaven to cover some of the cost for you. How can you complain about that they have lowered the barrier to entry into the iTunes market litterally as low as they possibly can. How on earth can you complain about that? Seriously?

@tenrdrmer, I completely agree with you here. More people need to recognize that people spend thousands of dollars to create games, and GameSalad is offering an outstanding tool at $300/yr or even free with some limitations.

@tenrdrmer - info received and knowledge updated. Thanks - I'll give it a go.
I have had 1 app accepted so far, and 3 rejected (all stating the ads as the reason or main reason).
1 reject was an iPhone version of an iPad app that had been already accepted and is in the store.
Looking round for a spare three hundred bucks.....
I'm not disputing that the software is excellent - but I just retired and money is - how shall we say - not so abundant at the moment!
