edited November -1 in Working with GS (Mac)
Ok guys, so i have spent some fair time on my latest project and bar some tweaking and some optimizing to do, its almost ready. Thing is, its a 20mb game and will only run on a 3GS. As has been pointed out its seriously cutting the market as a lot bigger percentage is on 3G. So as it wouldnt be viable to re-do all my graphics, i have used a wonderful photoshop plugin called blow up 2 which has, as the name suggests, blown up my photos. So heres what i've done;

1024 / 480 = 2.13333
768 / 320 = 2.4

So all my images have been blown up by those calculations with a resolution of 72 (if it doesnt work out as a whole number i round up). I have to say, i expected them to be blurry but theyre not, they're really good. The problem is, i've dropped them into GS, when i drag them from the actors window they look crisp but when i drop them they blur! Any reason why? Oh and what file size projects are people experiencing who have something ready for ipad? Thanks

    you must make sure that all the dimensions of your graphics are even. Or they will blur.

    i.e 134x46, not 134x45

    If they were not even in the blow up process, should i redo them orr can i just resize within GS and they should be ok?

    are any of your graphics over 1024 in any direction?

    haha yes this got me as well, i had some graphics in the original iphone version that were 1024 x 320, of course once i blew them up they were 2182 x 768 and i soon realised all i had was one big white block. haha. So yeh, need to trim that into two sections as well (plus the over hang as it'd be 2048 but i'll scrap the spare 140 odd). Im just not sure if the graphics need to be imported already in even size or whether i can still import them in odd but just rectify within GS so that they are even? I just want to keep the images as sharp as possible. Thanks

    ok i fixed them tsb, there was only 1 set that was 173 so i changed it to 174, re-imported and that set comes out clear but a lot of the other sets have a slight blur and they were originally blown up to an even size and the size within GS is matching as well. Any ideas?

    Do the screwed up ones have drop shadows

    how weird. i reopened the blurry images in ps, looked at image size and the resolution was 180, changed it to 72 and now the image is fine. now just need to re-blow up my images and make sure its set to 72. Argh the setting must have changed and i never noticed! Thanks for the help nonetheless

    make sure when you set the resolution you are setting dpi and NOT dpc (dots per centimeter)

    I use fireworks and it defaults to dpc, so I have blurred up image a few times before I realised what was going on.

    This if from CodeMonkey way back when.... maybe this is still the case:

    I think I found it. There is something in the way that the engine places the actor that it gets blurry if it is at exactly a whole number on at least one dimension. We will examine this further for future releases. But until then, if you manually edit an instance, and add/subtract .5 from its position, then usually it will clear up the image on the GameSalad Creator scene editor.

    Give it a try, it helped me.
