how do you make the joystick control a menu to go up and down to select a button

i wanna make one of the joysticks that come with game salad control a menu and select a button. please i really need help

See the file i attached as it converts the joystick angles into UP, DOWN...etc etc you could use these to count an integer + or - then if integer = 1 select menu button 1 and so on.
