Cost for purchasing full assets/ownership of app? HELP

dropoutdropout Member Posts: 19
Hello i am dealing with a freelance development company and i have been given a quote of '5 times the cost of development' for the purchase of the assets/ownership once the game is complete.

So if the game development was to cost me $20,000, it would cost a further 5x that amount ($100,000) to purchase the full ownership/assets.

The game i want developed does have a lot of valuable features and i see how they could benefit from using some of the code. But is 5x the development cost a normal average price for the ownership or does it seem like they are trying to rip me off?

any help would be appreciated
thank you

Take a look at this site: http://www.apptopia.com
There you can purchase completed apps/games and get an idea of the prices people are selling theirs for.

If your paying 20k for development, then you damn well better be getting full ownership to the code. I would include it in a contract for at least get a verbal agreement.

If you're paying them to develop for you, ownership and rights should be part of the package. You should receive all rights, unless they develop something that wasn't part of what you were paying for.

depending on the game... $20,000 is not unreasonable for development but that should include the rights to everything as well. you are hiring them to create your idea. not buying their idea from them.
