My story and experience - What about yours?

Hello. Well, last year I started working on my first big game. Till then, I learned GS as much as I can, I love games and the opportunity to even create my own ones is just awesome. What I learned during the development is really amazing. I was having a lot of push backs in that time, like my father passed away at the age of 46 a few weeks ago. I had to organize the funeral and much more and I am just at the age of 18.

Keep pushing in times like that is really hard. But I kept and I am proud of it. Before I start with the story, some sneak peaks before. I was able to reduce the game size from over 25 to 15mb, increase performance nearly 2x and much more. I did a lot of mistakes, wrote the code again, wrote it again and optimized every single actor. The result is a game which is 100% different from the current version that is live on the stores.
I have a great team around me and the feeling I get when I see the result makes every single minute I pushed a amazing one.

Despite the fact that the GS community is probably the most awesome ever, you still have to learn things on your own. At my very beginning I was asking really a lot, and now I just think, why the f*** didn't I just learn and work it out on my own? When you work on a big project, you do a lot of mistakes. But I think you need to do so in order to get the best out of it. I would say I learned really a lot while developing the game. I get to used which behaviors to use in order to get the most performance, like I replaced all timers and tried not to have much spawning and more detailled things.

But sometimes you also don't know what to do, moments you get really bored and angry. Keep calm, get some fresh drinks or whatever you like and start it over again. Trust me, at some point you get the solution and you will think like, why didn't I get it earlier?!. There is a quote I really love :D

>> The moment you're ready to quit is usually the moment right before the miracle happens. Don't give up. <<

Developing game is hard work, everyone knows this. But keep pushing every single minute. When you're bored at some point,
think about why? Take a break or watch Big Bang Theory or How I Met Your Mother. And if you still have a problem, ask the
best community ever and I am sure everybody will help you.

Just my 2cents here. Or a sneak peak of my story. Maybe some more are coming :)

Cheers Alex

I agree, the best way to learn is to, quite simply, do.

Yeah that's what I discovered. Everybody fails in life. I for myself use this as motivation to do it better :) Never give up.

I totally agree with you, look at me for example, I worked on my first game for about a year .. and finally I released it ! and here I am..$6 richer than what I used to be!!

well sad but true, but that didnt stop me I am working on my next game and it will be a hit ! I am totally sure about it.

Thanks for the motivational words @GuaveGames

Well, I know a lot of persons who can say "I made it". Not in game business but in other ones. And they all have 2 things in common.

1.You would never think that they have much money, they are like normal people and also act like that.

2.They took on a risk and succeeded.

Taking a risk is indeed important to success but plan for the consequences is as important as breathing.
