What I Love About GameSalad

Haha I saw a post that said "My Gripes With GameSalad" and thought I would start this post. Here are the top 5 things I love about GameSalad:
1) USER INTERFACE! I love it! I hate using really complex interfaces and GameSalad has the perfect interface!

2) No coding! Ok, yes coding is an important part of making full-blown games (even GameMaker 8 allows this) but GameSalad does a good job of keeping functionality without complex coding.

3) Physics! When I worked with GameMaker physics was so stinking hard to deal with! I hated it! GameSalad makes it easy though with universal attributes, something that GameMaker (or other programs I have tried) is missing.

4) Web Publishing! Ok, yes a year ago I posted a discussion about "How much I hate web publishing" but things have improved greatly since then and I love it now. It makes publishing so much easier.

5) Universal Binaries! My absolute favorite part of GameSalad is indeed iDevice publishing with Universal Binaries! I have to hand it to the GameSalad team, you did well my friends. :D

Feel free to share your favorites! (This post is dedicated to @DepressedPanda for asking someone to do this :D )

The things that you like about a system are just as important as the things you are dissatisfied with to those working to create updates and so on. Thanks for posting this.

I love how easy it is to get started and create simple things. But as you learn more your also able to create more difficult and complex systems.

I have my gripes but I think overall GS is great. I've reccomended it to all my graphic arts friends. Some day I can see moving up to Corona or something but that is a ways off.

And I should also say what I like most about GS is this forum. I would have never finished my game without kind people here!

TBH We have made over 10,000 in the last year thanks to gamesalad. Some of which was contract work, but in terms of app sales we pull in around at least 200 a month, which isn't great but up until recently we haven't taken things as seriously as we are currently. Gamesalad is a great tool and a great opportunity to make games that can reach a huge audience.

I honestly believe it is all about how much you put into it and the quality of the product you produce.

Now that we have a gameplan we plan to make over 100K this year. And that may seem ridiculous but I assure you it is modest in terms of what is possible with this tool.

People can focus on what is lacking with Gamesalad, but we should be focusing on what is possible. Great ideas spawn great potential. We should ll be lucky gamesalad exists.

Some people that have done extremely well have moved on to other tools. But either way GS made it possible for them to learn.

    Its invaluable.

I can understand why so many people post foolish, rude things on the forum. I think it is very easy to become frustrated and blow your top because game design has a huge emotional investment. Plus, where else are you going to vent? If I complain about taxes or the weather anyone in my life can sympathize. But it's not like I can go to the corner bar and explain to the bartender why I want to access a table from the left side of an expression. Maybe there should be a special forum section just to vent?

There should be a simple question after you submit a thread that asks "How are you feeling right now? Happy, confused, angry, sad, frustrated? Maybe with simple emotes...and if you choose frustrated or angry, the post waits 24 hours to actually submit.

A lot of the time when I'm developing something I find myself to get really irritable toward the end of a project, or even the end of a long day. So sometimes my mindset might not be in the right place to start a thread on the forums. I think waiting a day or two (most of the time after a nights sleep) before jumping into the community helps me see "straight" and keeps me from blowing up...which I usually regret when I have a sound reasonable mind.

With that said, I love everything about GS. My most favorite thing is the speed it takes to prototype something and put it in front of a user to test and get feedback. Such a great prototyping tool!
