Any reason to send out Promo Codes for a free game?

Hi All,

I'm just curious what your thoughts are. I'm about to promote a free iOS game and see that I'm able to get Promo Codes for it. Is there any reason to provide promo codes to websites, reviewers, etc for a free game?

thanks
Jamie

    For a free game, I would say no. A promo code is basically an iTunes gift card for that one specific app. In my opinion there is no need to supply one for a free app. :)

    That's pretty much exactly what I thought too, I just wanted to be sure there wasn't something I was missing about promo codes since this is my first time promoting an app.

    I was surprised to see I was even able to get promo codes for a free app.

    Thanks for your insight.

    @siwel / @mounter88 - You can make a code to auto - unlock it withen your app using the enter text behavior. This is even better, as you can give the code to as many people as you want :)

    Yeah, free apps still have promo codes so you can still use those after you make the game paid :)

    @SnapFireStudios thanks,

    Do you know if there is a way to make it so these are single use codes. Possibly syncing online. Just If I make a code that bypasses in app purchases, the are is a possibility that it would get leaked onto the web.

    If not is there a way you could make the codes that are date specific?

    Manny Thanks

    Well yes to both. You could set up some sort of web thing so that the user has to go to a web address to get a code, and they could hit a button that says "I used it" or something.
    You could also use the time variables in GS to do the date specific codes.

    Ok, thanks. Dose this mean that I can link a gamesalad game to an online database?

    Well you can take users to a url. So... do with that what you can.

    Keep in mind a slightly tech savvy user could just change the date and time back to use the code, as GameSalad only uses the System Date and Time ;)
