Hi!

My name is Tom Klovholt, I work as an full-time freelancer and have just created an info page for game art prices:

http://gameartprices.info/

Its meant as a price guide for indie-devs how are looking to hire freelancer, to give them an idea of what different type of
graphics costs. I get a lot of questions about prices, so hopefully this page can be a useful tool for both freelancers and game devs.

If you would like to give your participate in this project and give your votes, send me an email for username and password to the site.An please include your portfolio and how many years you have been in service (you have to be working 50% or more as an freelancer).

I would really appreciate if you could contribute with your game art to the site for other freelancers to vote on.
If you have any questions, suggestions or feedback you can reach me on this e-mail: tom.klovholt@shadow-embryo.com

    Really helpful for those of us (myself included) who haven't a clue about the expense of game art.

    Very cool idea and website. I recently had some custom illustration work done for an app (non-game) and I had no idea going into it how much I could expect to be charged.

    Thanks for the feedback guys:)
    Hoping to get a lot of styles and examples on this site. Should make it easier to guess what your projects cost if you decide to hire an freelancer.

    And for those of you who thinks the prices are to high; hire an hobbyist (someone who doesn't pay taxes and lives with his/her parents);)

    @Riffel user-name and pass sent.

    Hi @dhondon, great idea for the site and i like the category breakdown.

    Helpfull to everyone (including yourself to disarm the "high price" argument) would be to include an overview of the time required in creating the different art styles.

    Maybe even a breakdown of the steps involved in getting it to the final usable game art stage.

    For me, the art design is not unlike the actual coding process: The long brainstorming phase before you lock down the idea or style, the relatively short creation process, followed by a long tweaking and finetuning phase.

    Unfortunately clients are usually only prepared to pay for the short creation process. However, this is mostly our own fault as artist (and i use this label loosely on myself) as we dont feel comfortable charging clients for our hours of doodeling and trial and error.
