This will certainly be short lived but am now in top 20 arcade games on Amazon store. Actually above Angry Birds Rio.
Does anyone have any experience from transferring a short amount of success like this to something bigger? Ie. Is it worth trying to contact Apple. Google Play to let them know Amazon has featured it??
apple doesn't care they chart based on their metrics same with google play. Although, it is an honor to be honest and not trying to take away from it. It's really not that big a deal. What is a big deal is having huge download numbers like in the half million range. Ultimately, when it comes to these kind of things for that kind of attention you're competing with the big boys. Games with staying power and huge budgets and household names. If you're Disney, Pixar, Marvel, et. You get the idea.
As someone from a communications background here's the best way to climb the PR ladder. Write about your success to your local newspaper and/or media outlets. They like local stories. The dirty secret is this is how the news outlets up the chain find news by fishing in the chain by their lesser affiliates. What you hope for is your story being appealing enough to get attention a set above say your regional paper and then national et....
Welcome to being an independent developer. It's a hard road and hitting it big is as hard as hitting the lottery. At this point you're game seems to being doing well so what it seems to me your next step is really learning about the industry you're in and the players from the business side of things. After all at the next level it's as much a business as an art.
@FryingBaconStudios Thanks. Yep, i know hitting big is practically impossible but was just wondering if could transfer this success somehow. Anyway, so answer seems to be no, so lets see how downloads go over next week.
Some contacts within industry would certainly be a good idea. Maybe a conference visit next....
