Help with camera controls

in Working with GS (Mac)
How do I make the camera follow the actor so that it doesn't follow him like in mario, but it does follow him like in VVVVV. I don't want to use different scenes for each screen as it is leading to problems. There was a template here that did it well, but I can't seem to get it working.

    Here's how I'd do it. Arrow keys to move.

    (@ToastKitten made that template free at one point so I feel okay posting the demo I just made.)
