How does universal build work?

Can someone point me to a tutorial? I am not sure how it all works. Like... Do you create different resolution backgrounds and the device picks the one that fits???

    For iOS you can choose either iPhone, iPad or a Universal build (Works on both iPhone and iPad). All of them have the option to display using Overscan or Letterbox. To see it in action open a project click Preview and on the top left choose one of the different devices from the drop down menu. Once you select a device another drop box will appear and you can choose from Letterbox, Overscan and Stretch. At the moment you can not publish a project in Stretch but they are working on it and it may be out shortly.

    colander are you refering to a nightly build version? I dont see any stretch options. im using 10.4.1
