A Prototype actor is the 'main' actor when you create it in the actor editor. When you make edits to this actors behaviors or attributes it will effect all copies of the actor you have placed in any given scene (that are not unlocked instances).

If you double click one of the actors in your scene and unlock it (by clicking the unlock icon) this will create and Instance of that Prototype actor. Once you have unlocked an actor an made it an Instance any edits you make to it's prototype ARE NOT reflected in the instance and any edits you make to the instance ARE NOT reflected in the Prototype.

    Hope that helps.

i dont understand, when i go to actor editor i can't change the behaviors or attributes of all the existing actors,
leaving me no choice but to double click on each one to edit or change stuff...

The prototype actor is the actor -- the main actor that you will be using. So when you go to your actors panel and click the plus on the bottom left hand corner, you have created your main prototype actor, or if you drag an image into your actors panel, that would be your main prototype actor.

Dragging as many of the same actors as you want out onto the screen, the main preview play area, make sure that none of the actors are unlocked. Then you should be able to go into the prototype in the actors panel and change the attributes and settings and stuff to make all the other actors do the same thing...

Yes you can, if you can't perhaps there is something wrong with your copy of Gamesalad. Consider un-installing and re-installing.

You should not have any problems editing behaviors and attributed of a prototype actor and having those changes effect all copies of that same actor (that ARE NOT instances).

Are you 100%, totally, absolutely sure that the copies of the actor you want to effect are not already unlocked and instances? If they have already been unlocked, the edits made to the Prototype will NOT effect them.

I suggest deleting all copies of the actors from your scene and starting from scratch with actors that you are sure are not already instances.

There is a know bug in Gamesalad that sometimes changes made in a prototype don't immediately effect it's copies in the scene however, if this is the case for you quitting and restarting Gamesalad usually fixes the problem, until it happens again.
