Flappy Bird game tutorial

I had to join the community and create my required version of Flappy Bird using Gamesalad. It's presented as a free tutorial and source files. Feel free to check it out here if you're interested.

*PS. if you publish a version and make $50,000 per day in ad revenue it sure would be nice if you could cough up one days revenue for me... ;) LOL!

    I've been vaguely curious if people have been making Flappy Bird the way I'd have gone about making it, so I checked out your video.

    You are an excellent teacher - you give clear, well paced instructions and explain just enough to be informative without overburdening with information. I'd say this video is the most beneficial to new users that I've seen so far. Great work!

    I wish I'd had your courses a couple of years ago, I'd definitely have subscribed to them based on this video!

    @Armelline, thanks a lot that is really nice to hear. I've often thought if I hadn't gone into graphic design as a career I'd have liked to be a teacher, so now I'm doing both. :)

    I was a teacher for many years, so putting together a course in GS was something I seriously considered. Then I saw yours and thought there really was no need as you had it covered :D

    Graphic design skills would be far more useful to me at this point in time...

    I guess I better whip up a graphic design class then! :)

    I've got to say, out of all the templates and clones I've seen this month, yours is really really smooth! Nice work! :)

    @Armelline Agreed, jamie_c is an excellent teacher.

    And as a teacher who started doing game design when I discovered GameSalad, I'll meet you in the middle, @jamie_c. ;)

    If it's free I'll watch it for sure :D If it's not I'll have to keep painting my walls instead :(

    @JDuaneJ, the tutorial posted above is as far as I plan on taking this project. I just felt I had to join the crowd and make a version so I felt I belonged. ;)

    Not watched the video but I'm 99.9% sure you won't need pro.

    Darren.

    @DeepBlueApps, not sure what that is in reference too. But you're right there are no pro behaviors used in the tutorial.

    @jamie_c Ahh looks like he edited his post, the question was something about spawning and is it because he needs pro :)

    Hey @jamie_c,
    I made a clone along with everyone else! HAHAHA!!! It is available in the Google Play Store and soon to be on iOS once approved by Apple! Saw you made a tut and decided to take a quick look to see how you did your version. I like to see how other developers use this tool to make the same game. LOL Thought is was a great tut and MANY will be thankful that you took the time to make this! Just wanted to make a suggestion to others that fallowed your tut! My only suggestion while skimming through it to help get better performance out of the app, try and come up with a different method rather than using spawn and destroy. Just wanted to put my 2 cents in! :p LOL Keep going with all the great things you are doing and accomplishing!!!

    @deepblueapps @jamie_c

    Really appreciate your help! Btw what advertisement option do I have on gamesalad? As for the iAd I would require to upgrade to the pro version right? how bout playhaven?

    What is the best advertisement option you would recommend?

    Thanks

    @andryhakim,
    Just wanted to give you a heads up in case you didn't know that 2 more options will be coming soon! They are Chartboost and Revmob. Shouldn't be too long until there are available!

    @jamie_c Thanks for this ... I will download and have a look at it on Monday ... Cheers ;-)

    @killerpenguinstudios which one should I use? which one is the best?

    Hello, I'm trying to make your Fappy Bird game on the free windows version, but there are many differences between how your version works and mine. For instance, there's no spawn option in the actors attributes.

    So I'm stuck trying to make my ground continue to spawn while killing the old ground. Can you translate this into windows?
  • jamie_cjamie_c ImagineLabs.rocks Member, PRO Posts: 5,772
    @B1984, the Windows version has all of the same options and behaviors as the Macintosh version they are just located in different spots since the interfaces are so different. I have a Windows and Mac comparison video that might help you out. http://www.jamie-cross.net/?portfolio=gamesalad-macintosh-and-windows-interface-side-by-side-comparison

    @andryhakim, you do need to upgrade to PRO to use any advertising option.

    @KillerPenguinStudios, I hear you about the spawn and destroy but honestly I use that all the time in various games and have never experienced any problems. It's been my experience that the 'old' method of recycling actors is just that, outdated and not needed these days.
