What does adHoc mean?

Hi,

I know this is probably a really silly question but what does adHoc mean. I see it quite a lot in peoples questions.

    An ad-hoc build is one that you install on a device without publishing to the App Store. Services such as TestFlight make this possible for multiple users to allow you to test your games prior to publishing.
