Google is trying to scare users into using their own gmail client. If you are receiving their blocked login attempt emails, you know what I'm talking about.
A secret from inside google: they are trying to discontinue gmail internally. My guess is the next year or so will bring more instability until they launch the replacement and try to force everyone into it. I also find it funny that that discussion is in the Chrome category. Way to put it where most will never see it

Here I thought it was just me logging into my email incorrectly.
IMHO they need to announce things like new login screens so people won't freak out and think they have a virus.
