Right now it's only got one lesson, but we're going to start putting together an awesome centralized clearinghouse
of GameSalad tips, tricks, and tutorials at http://learn.gamesalad.com.

We know this awesome community has made sooooo many videos to help everyone learn how to make awesome GameSalad!
So we're going to ask for your help here. Post your youtube / vimeo / whatever links below.

Then another forum user needs to check the tutorial and make sure it still works in the current version of GameSalad.
If it's all good, vote it Insightful!

If your videos are chosen you'll get an awesome "GameSalad Guru" forum badge and bragging rights!

I'll leave my community tutorial thread HERE.

I've done a lot of video tutorials over the past 2-3 years on the GSHelper Youtube channel.

Excited to see that helpful video/demos will be kept in one place! Good job GameSalad - Constantly amazed at your continued effort!

@adent42 - Does a GS employee check the tutorials to see if they work with both Mac and Windows, or is that duty up to forum members?

@Braydon_SFX For this submission thread we're asking for users to check them (and indicate they checked them via the Insightful vote). If we decide to pick it for the site, we'll give it a quick once over as well.

Hmmm. Great Idea but I would have more confidence and respect if the GS team would "select" the said awesome community video creators themselves by personally hand picking them by reviewing their qualities individually.

When selected, ask the community to vote what videos were made and ask the "awesome community" video creators to make them.

A lot of time goes in to pre planning and execution of tutorial creation and its not an easy task. I guess this is why you are asking the community to provide this for you. I just think that you should invest a little more time that giving it a "QUICK once over" after we have reviewed it for you on you behalf.

But thats my thoughts. (Well Half of them, I edited out the most part!)

Best Regards and no disrespect intended,
    Damien

    Great idea ! :)

The only thing I'd add would be the idea that GS should move these videos over to a permanent GS Youtube channel (or what your video hosting site of choice is) - without this you'll find a growing list of tricks and tips will end up with out of date links and missing videos (for example I deleted my old YT account - which killed all my old links on the forum), so even within a year or so the list will have holes, dead ends and broken links.

Maybe people submitting videos should - as part of the submitting process - also agreeing that GS will download the video and upload it to their own channel.

I agree with this idea. I created a huge playlist on YouTube with more than 120 GS tutorials over 3 years and compiled a spreadsheet so I knew what was what, but now it's full of holes.

What's more I think it would be important to tag every video with both the date created and the version of GS that was used.

@The_Gamesalad_Guru, I think you're just going to get the badge by default once it's ready for awarding!

I don't have any videos, but I did create a cool tutorial for sending/receiving data using your own server :)

An awesome one at that, this is why we need a written tutorial section too!

Is it worth adding my vertical shooter tutorial?

  • adent42adent42 Key Master, Head Chef, Executive Chef, Member, PRO Posts: 3,228

Good stuff. Once i get past some fixes to make sure people who subscribe to pro always get their upgrades (there's some interesting cases that we currently don't handle and I decided to take the opportunity to refactor) I'll start taking a look. There's also great progress on ours side towards an structure and design for the learn site, thanks to @WebWarrior and @akaustin I'll try to get some screenshots soon!

Sure. Even when I think I know how to do something already, I learn better or different ways of doing things from other members tutorials/demos. ;)
