What platform? I know for sure you can do both landscape and portrait for Apple devices. Not sure about Android however.
Can't you just design your splash screen logo to be turned 90 degrees? When I do this I import my actor/logo...place it in the screen 90 and take a snapshot in the preview mode save to desktop...then resize as needed per devices and boomage...you got yourself a landscape splash screen.
