Goodbye awesome community!

ApprowApprow Member Posts: 703

Im quitting gamesalad because some features that I need the most are still not coming in 1.25.
I really hoped that they would release 1.25 with the nearest neighbour interpolation scaling option, and more options and improvement for the camera and scene settings, but as seen in the sneak peek video its not going to happen, probably not anytime soon either, and I'm tired of waiting, the tool is limiting my creativity. I received a full license for game maker: studio from the creators of "The Sandbox". They approached me because they loved my pixel art, and asked me if I want to do a promotional artwork with The Sandbox 2 beta, so it will be in the "shared worlds" section when they release the game to the public. I'm really excited moving to game maker because the engine can do everything that I need, and I think it's also time for me to move to a more advanced tool, so I can learn more about game making.

I will be around for 1 more week until my subscription ends (hopefully I can play around with 1.25), after that I'm off to a new and exciting journey of game development. I want to thank the whole community and the gamesalad staff for helping me making my first steps into the world of game making. It has been a great learning curve for the past few years!

With these words being said, I want to say goodbye. I will miss you and the rest of community!

Matthias

    @Approw sad to see you go... but you've got your reasons, and have your new path mapped. Good luck with your future endeavours.

    Im a bit in the same position, although not leaving... but finally made the conscious decision that I can no longer use GameSalad for any new games, and will be starting any new games in other engines, mostly for business reasons and future proofing.

    Im not giving up on GS though, as Ive still got a massive pile of part finished games using the tool, so although Ive already started work on remaking some with other engines, I'll still be looking at finishing off a chunk of the games in GS, as it really is so easy and fun to work with... it just isn't stable and reliable enough to build a long term business on.

    @UtopianGames ... and there you go, with a perfect example of where it struggles to compete anymore :(

    Good luck! Yes there comes a day for many who need a more powerful tool. My son who is a game design major is using that tool as well. Infact he is going to be looking for a pixel artist soon. Drop me your email before you go if you do client work.

    I've been thinking along the same lines for the last year. It takes soon long for anything to happen with the updates. I've got a few projects to finish off and then its time to move on to something new. Best of luck!!!!

    Thanks everyone for the kind words, this is exactly why gamesalad feels like home. Unfortunatly sometimes even if you love the house you're living in, you need to move on because you would like to have a pool in the garden, or meet new neighbour's and friends, but I will never forget the great place where I grew up:)!!

    @Chunkypixels I'm basicaly dropping all projects except for one game I was working on a while back. That game is going to be my main focus in game maker. Right now I'm looking for the best way to set up the basics. I really hope gamesalad will be around for a long period of time, and hopefully they will attract more developers to their platform.

    @Lost_Oasis_Games I will send you a pm, not sure if I'm available but its always great to make new contact:)

    @dgackey My pleasure!

    @digitalzero I'm sorry it's just my time, please don't be sad, casue @socks and all the other great devs are still here;)! It's nice to know that some people like you care so much about some dev's around here. Keep up the spirit!

    By the way last week I had to create a video for a funding submission that shows some games and prototypes that I have worked on, they are all made with gamesalad ( @http_gamesalad sway is in there as well;). Enjoy!
