Tutorial: Facebook Sharing with GameSalad

So, while we wait for GameSalad to implement proper Facebook sharing, there are a few ways to include limited Facebook sharing in your game. This is one. It's not a bad approach, and fills the gap while we wait for official support. Attached is a tutorial and a template. This is not a method I discovered or invented, but there isn't a guide or template for it currently, so I thought I'd make one.

The tutorial walks you through setting up a Facebook App ID. You'll need a Facebook account. It's pretty easy, and there are lots of pictures.

The template provides you with an actor that can be dragged and dropped from the template to your own project. Once you've done that, you just need to fill in a few fields and you're good to go. If you're on Windows, you can't drag and drop and this will all be way harder. I'll see if I can figure out a good approach for Windows users.

With this guide you can add Facebook sharing to your app in about 10 minutes. Less if you're nimble fingered!

I'm not at all sure that every step is needed, or the best way to do things, so let me know of any possible improvements and I'll update the tutorial/template!

I'll provide limited support in this thread, but please be aware that I'm not an expert in this Facebook stuff, and you'll probably have questions I can't answer.

@Armelline Great stuff! Do you know if a facebook page or a wordpress page will work in the domain section? (sorry if it's a dumb question)

I've not tried it, but I can't see why not!

    @Armelline

Thank you, this is great and very useful if you are serious about your viral looping.
    This should be a sticky.

Uhmm, what happened to the tutorial and the many pics? I can see the project template but not the tutorial

The download is a zip file. Inside is the project and the guide. :)

hey @Armelline , do you know if this method opens the Facebook app itself? Or does it open Safari?

I tried doing this with my game but it's resulting in an error due to the itunes.apple.com domain not matching my itunes URL (even though the domain does seem to match)

    waiting for window version ^__^

@supafly129 It opens the web browser. I'm not aware of any way to pass the necessary information to the app.

@kianziack There will not be a Windows specific version - you can't copy actors between projects in Windows so there's no point. I'd recommend opening the Mac version (can be opened on Windows) and outputting the generated string to the debugging log and copy it from there and pasting it into your Facebook button in your main project.

Does this tutorial still work? I`m using it but it only opens a blank page

I'm afraid I have no idea. I do know Facebook made a lot of changes recently, so it's very possible it won't.

Feed was deprecated so you will have to use Share but you can still do it.
