Possibly the strangest question ever asked on the forums....

I'm about to name an app (will be disclosed at a later date!) but before I do, I want to know if the word "Toilet" is an English (UK) word or commonly used worldwide? In particular is a toilet called a toilet in the US! I mean we have lots of other words like loo, bog and some I won't care to list but the more formal word is toilet. Is this the case in the US and the rest of the world who speak some form of the English language?

Please comment below and let me know where your from!

From Texas -- We use toilet mostly. With younger crowds, I often hear "potty."

Toilet is used commonly in the US.

The actual toilet is called a toilet. The room is called a washroom or restroom or bathroom in Canada.

We use "dunny" sometimes in Australia, but toilet is most common and everyone understands it including new immigrants. It's probably one of the first things they learn, because when you gotta go, you gotta ask the right question. :#

Toilet is def most universal. Have heard a few in the US such as: loo, restroom, washroom, potty, bathroom, pooper, crapper, and uhh a few more crass ones I wont list here =P

Thank you all for your input. So Toilet is very well known and not just local to England (which is what I was trying to figure out!). Now I have this info, I can name this! Thanks again.

@gingagaming just for reference, loo is actually considered 'posher' and more formal than toilet by people who are actually posher. I'm regularly told off (jokingly) for using the word toilet by a certain friends.

Revisiting this question as I am designing an element in my "Toilet" themed game. Its a newspaper and I want to name it themed. I was going to call it the "Bog Standard News" but I believe "Bog standard" is UK slang and therefore unknown to the rest of the world. So hopefully some of you Americans (not limited to!) can help me out with a toilet themed name for a newspaper. Thank you all for any suggestions!

I love the input guys, these are all great suggestions. I particularly love:

    The Daily Poo
    Sun Don't Shine Times
    Rear View Journal
    Closet Times
The WallStreet Journal (revised to The Toilet Wall Journal) - (and love your suggestion @socks about your headline but its a little too close to the cloth as they say!)

But right now unless there are any advances, I think dave @The_Gamesalad_Guru is in the lead with:

    Flushington post

Thank you all for your input so far. I am also intrigued with some content now after @Socks suggestion! This could bring another funny element to the paper! So feel free to be featured and suggest below!

    Poo York Times . . . .

Still think 'Flushington Post' is the best so far.

Wait a minute now! I just noticed that this nonsense was on a "roll" again.

What about:" Poopert Murdoch's News Ltd" ? He's makes the shittiest papers. :s

FYI : Murdoch started News Ltd in South Australia. That's why we kicked him out. We thought it would be funny to send a criminal back to the UK, but they didn't want him, so he went to the USA. Now let's see if Trump :rage: ejects him as an undesirable immigrant.
