Top Gamesalad coder looking to partner with artist.

Looking for a top rate, creative and commited artist to partner with me on games. 50/50 partnership. My resume as a coder is well known here. See my youtube page and my videos on the gamesalad Academy. My old partner dane, who is still my awesome friend, has moved on to bigger things in his career, which leaves no time for art work. Contact me at dave@fryingbacon.com. I'm looking for a artist that equals my coding/developing talent and experience.

I've seen some great artists around here so I know there are many out there.

There have been a number of impressive artist threads around here lately. However, for the most part, I don't think their styles jive with most GameSalad projects. Additionally, it's not uncommon for a great artist's skills to fall short of covering design/UI/UX needs. A great character/scenery illustrator usually isn't trained in visual design --- and vice versa.

Guru, if you find one of those unicorns, there will be no stopping your team.

@The_Gamesalad_Guru - Hey Dave - perhaps you could add a bit more details to your request -such as listing out the specific needs you're looking for in an Artist partner.

Are you looking for a Generalist that can do a bit of everything, someone that does great graphic arts work for UIs, someone that's great with scenery, characters, pixel art vs. hand-drawn vector art, etc.

Also, don't hesitate to provide some broad strokes (art-pun - yuk yuk) as to the types of games you are looking to make and the kinds of art assets you might need built. e.g. If you're making a space-shooter, you probably don't want a high-end character artist, etc.

    Cheers!

@The_Gamesalad_Guru I'm a visual artist and might be interested - check out some of my work at http://www.facebook.com/capartwork

My areas of expertise are in logo and product designs, but I've been looking to branch out a bit.

Yes, I was very lucky with my partner dane. He could handle any type of art style and he was also a great developer with tons of ideas and concepts. We were a great team but life gets in the way and careers grow. I'm in no rush, finding the right fit demands patience

Any info on what your games typically make (or will that be something you would have to discuss in private)? I just want to know if it's worth the time my friend. I know the app store is very volatile BUT if you can throw out a ball park figure, that would be good.

All this content was created by us, art, video, voice overs, code. I am the voice of Pucky. I haven't had the time to update the game for iOS 10 but am doing that in the coming weeks. We had two projects in the middle of development, Atom Smash, ( accelerometer based game) and Steel Beach, where you catapult sailors off an aircraft carrier at targets in the ocean. I also own the rights to a golden book series of characters called "Kate Gleeson's Little Beasties.

Ok. Is that your only game?

That's the only one we released. Most of my stuff was coded for other people. I've done code on many games and apps. One big one I did was for Dewars Whiskey. As I said both daneand I have careers other than development. He landed a big job at a successful startup in LA after that game. His time to do art became limited but he was my friend and partner so we just plugged away at stuff from time to time as I said above. During this time I coded lots of games for others. I did tons of freelance work. Here is a video of a game I coded that I can share as I became part owner of it. I also spent a year developing a multiplayer game using Playstogether that Gs ended up scraping the feature.

The thing with Puck It is that people look on the surface and see air hockey. What they fail to understand is the two complex AI systems I built in that game. The first was one of the first gamesalad high level AI computer players I built with three different difficulty levels. Second is the play by play commentary AI system I built in that game that determines the state of the gameplay and provides appropriate commentator responces. Try and build one of those two AIs and then come and tell me Puck It is just air hockey...lol

I'm curious who said its just air hockey :) unless the comments were deleted , looks great !

  • I need to go back and check out puck it. Played it a long time ago. Best of luck in finding a partner @The_Gamesalad_Guru , hopefully with the new HTML 5 engine coming out it will be possible to collaborate on projects, would be cool to see what this community comes up with then.
