New GameSalad Viewer App Update - Live

ForumNinjaForumNinja Key Master, Head Chef, Member, PRO Posts: 554

We pushed out an update to the GameSalad Viewer app on the app stores that provides:

  • iOS 11 support
  • a fix for the app closing if your game takes a while to load (iOS)
  • support for the web version of GameSalad (via a QR code scanner for both Android and iOS)

To use the QR code method, simply:

  1. Publish your project to your portfolio

  2. Navigate to your list of published projects within the web version

  3. Click the little viewer button right here:

  1. Click the camera button inside the GameSalad Viewer app

  2. Snap a picture of the QR code that pops up from step 3

Awesome! Gonna give a test right now. Looks like some pretty slick stuff.

Edit: Works amazing, even with very large projects! Wish I could give 50 awesomes.

Thanks @adent42 @ForumNinja and GS staff.

@Icebox @tatiang @AlchimiaStudios Any of you guys try the QR method? Gotta say it feels pretty cool to just snap a code to play your project on a device :sunglasses:

Yep, that's what i'm so hyped about haha. Pretty much only going to use this method from now on.

Yes i tried and as i said its awesome , what i like the most is that its not an html5 viewer , I thought the viewer would work through a link and we would have to open chrome on mobile to test ( like another engine i used) , glad this isnt the case . Really great job GS team !

    Just did. :)

WAIT, does that mean I can send someone the QR code and they can take a picture of it from GameSalad Viewer and... presto?!

@ForumNinja I noticed that in Recent Games in the Viewer, it displays spaces within project names as "%20." It would be great to resolve that at some point.

Yeah, amazingly easy for beta testing and app distribution.

@tatiang That is correct. There's a lot of possibilities with the addition of the QR code functionality :D

    Agreed!

@tatiang sort of. The QR code expires (to prevent people from stealing your projects by passing the code around). Sometime in the future I'd like to make it work with links you can control (a la Dropbox link sharing). So if you want the QR code permanent, you can, if you want it to expire in 30 days, you could too. But thats a little bit off, still got stuff to get the current too up to par and still gotta find what's wrong with the Mac tool!

@adent42 Okay, good to know. How long does the QR code last?

  • ForumNinjaForumNinja Key Master, Head Chef, Member, PRO Posts: 554

    @tatiang I believe it's currently 24 hours.

@adent42 @ForumNinja actually, while the QR Code expires, the project will still appear in Recent Games in the Viewer app beyond 24 hours which is great for testing.

Very true, it will stay in the recent games tab!
