How do I search for a whole phrase? for example: "download .88"

The problem is that it only searches for the 1st phrase, "download"... is there a way to search for the whole phrase?

It searches for all terms, in this case both "download" and ".88":

It's possible there weren't any posts with ".88" before yours.

This is not how it works in my experience. It seems to be searching for each term separately, and not giving any priority to posts that include multiple terms. Priroity seems to be entirely most recent result with any of the search terms.
