I had a different thought on this .... I think it is clear that each GS user has different things/features they might value over other things/features and thus the 'melt your face' might only melt some faces. So I tried to piece a few things together .... taking what we don't know (ie: we know Android is coming, leadboards, achievements etc). And other things that have happened but aren't mentioned .... Darren's and TSB's templates were picked up by GS. So here's my guess ... Masala is an addition to GS that uses parts of those templates and has drag and drop components right in GS. Want a platform that moves back and forth .. drag and drop ... want to roll your actor .. drag and drop. All behavours and attributes all there with a special adjustment window for the whole part .. adjust gravity, direction, size, etc in one dialog box. Just think about that for a second ... speed up the repetative stuff so we can focus on the custom parts that make games unique/polished???? Just a thought. Hey GS if I'm right can I have PRO for a prize? Just kidding willing/happy to pay when I need it, small cost for such a great tool.

When did this happen?
Isn't that a bad idea? Wouldn't that make many GameSalad games look the same?
Although, if the templates were sold, it's a great way to kick-start the marketplace. That's not until the Summer though.
I don't think templates are face-melting though. That's basically common sense. If they're implementing Darren and Wayne's tools into the software, that's a good improvement... not really face-melting either though.

No I guess I didn't convey my thoughts correctly. Imagine they create Components to go with behaviours. Not a template but drag and drop components that are actors with attributes and behaviours attached. Drag them in your scene and edit through a combined edit panel.

I was thinking the same thing actually. If they had pre - made actors ready to go, it would really open GS up to a greater audience, and shorten the learning curve.

That makes a little better sense. I was wondering the Same as Photics. And thought man if they are now going to be free to everyone they more or less have screwed anyone who bought them upfront. I personally feel the same about them implementing the tools also though. It just doesn't seem right to sell it now and then once most people have paid for it to turn around and give it for free.
I know thats partly how business works but at the same time it's pretty shady if you ask me.
Incorporating templates, in my opinion, is not industry changing. While it would give us some more options, it doesn't exactly melt my face. Guess we will just have to wait and see

I think understood what you meant. Like Code Monkey's controller example, you could just drag-and-drop the controllers onto your game. I think that's cool, but not really industry changing.
Also, that's different than buying templates. That's surprising to me. While the default GameSalad templates are not the best, that's a problem the Marketplace can solve.
Why would GameSalad buy them instead of making their own? Why would the developers sell their templates? (Were they offered a lot of money?)
Theories...
1 - GameSalad wants to crush the template market. That seems unlikely. Otherwise, why put the marketplace on the roadmap?
2 - GameSalad just wants a few new templates, to make the default examples more presentable.

#1 maybe not crush it but capitalize on it would be smart of them. Maybe they just don't have time to build good templates.
#2 That is definitely a must however as we have seen so far those templates as is have been submitted to the app store so they are going to have to determine some way to keep blatant copy and paste submissions from going through.
LMFAO! But i think they should have it based on an application. And there is some sort of server that backs everything up on the web where you can also edit.

Why do you think that? Masala is not part of 0.9.3... and that's two weeks away. Second week of May in developer speak means late Friday... FRIDAY THE THIRTEENTH!
Maybe they should launch on the Thursday before, to ease those that might suffer from triskadekaphobia.

In his post about the GameSalad 2011 Road Map, Steve said Project Masala would be coming "next month". So, since his post is 3 weeks old, that would lead to the assumption that the official announcement is going to be in a couple of weeks. However, you do make a good point Photics, I guess it could be as late as June before the announcement...God forbid
The road map is not set in stone, more like #2 pencil. I think Masala got erased and pushed back. The recent job posting suggests that Masala got bumped.

Y do we need it to be online anyway? How is that significant?
http://gamesalad.com/careers/ Maybe I should apply for that job. It seems cool.
Heh, I'm imagining using my Wiimote to add new content to BOT.
