I had some trouble with area 17, but I'll probably work on the project some more tonight. The render for the level was using low-res textures. So, much of yesterday's work is getting trashed. I'm absolutely fanatical about resolution independence / retina display.

Being able to work on a gamesalad project at the same time as another person...for example hosting the gamesalad project centrally which would mean that you could actually have teams of people working on the same project at the same time :)

wow that seems like on hell of an idea ;)

    Project GameSalad

i have absolutely no basis or knowledge of whats going on btw, its just a guess! But masala is a mix of different curries all thrown together to make something very nice...so there's my reasoning. Now what do I get if I win?

I know we've had a history of releasing late in the week (in particular, Friday afternoons). That's something we're really trying to put an end to. Certainly, I can't promise that Thursday/Friday releases are out of the question, but we prefer to release updates in the first half of the week.

As for Masala, it is an ongoing project, that will see significant updates and development even after we announce and release the first version [which is still on schedule for Spring 2011 release ;)]

Thanks Yoda. I have every faith in improved contact and releases, you've proved that already that change is on the horizon! Keep up the great work.

Has anyone mentioned that Masala is spelled with letters from GameSalad.

In fact, it's almost the exact string of letters from the middle.

yeah, the only difference is they swap the "e" for an "a".

    "a" = android??

First post in this thread... I think it might be web based editing. But after the outage from last weekend...

    http://photics.com/gamesalad-is-down

...that might not be such a good idea. Especially now that the GameSalad Creator has been improved... I'm not so sure if it's a good idea to move development into the cloud.

i hope GS never goes that direction.

If it was... in addition to... and not... instead of... then I think web based editing would be great. I could make games on my PC, iPhone, Wii or PS3. HA... I could relax on my couch. If the games in the cloud could be exported to the desktop, then I don't see any downsides. That would be more options without losing what we have now.

It makes sense for adding Android support, as Windows and Linux boxes could be used.

Android is not Masala, as Android is on the roadmap.

I still don't think HTML5 has what it takes for GS.

So, considering Booth said Web-Based editing would suck, we can assume that it is not that, because he knows what it really is, right.

    Unless it's just clever redirection.

    Hmmmm.

    What?!

A GameSalad Project is basically three things...

    • Sound Files
    • Image Files
    • XML Files

That can totally be managed online. The Web plugin is already part of GameSalad, it just needs to be improved.

I'm not sure. His reaction was different when this thread started, so it's not like he couldn't mention his contempt for web-based editing before.

...how is GameSalad going to work for those developers if they're on Windows PCs or Linux machines? A web based solution opens up the software to more developers. That's the mandate for GameSalad, to bring game development to the masses.

    Haha!

Now that the memory leak issue is fixed, this might actually be a possibility for those of us with macbooks...

Also, true on your AndroidOnRoadMap point...

Masala, in cooking terms (following the food references of GameSalad), is a mixture of spices. I have no idea what that would mean for game development but I thought I'd throw that out there! ha

Personally, it would drive me crazy having to keep uploading assets/amended files.

Perhaps if it just exported html5 games that would not be a problem...

Whatever it is will probably mean a zillion more users so MS and Online would make sense.

With something like an iOS device, it would be annoying to upload assets — or even modify existing assets. Yet, that's where the marketplace enters the picture... which is also on the roadmap.

You have to upload the files to GameSalad anyway. A little at a time is less annoying than having to upload everything — every time you want to publish your game.

Hmm, not sure I want that. 3D is incredibly hard to do. And more importantly, to do it well. It would require a massive update and an enormous amount of work on GS's part. I would much rather them give us a cool update that we can all be happy with before they go 3D.

Baby steps... Have to crawl before you can walk. GameCenter is a very cool feature too!
