This is a little unfinished preview of what my free characters are going to look like.
I've designed the body shape / animations so that my characters can be used in side scrolling games and defence/battle games where they need to cover vertical terrain.
I'll be releasing each character in packs:
Parts only; Separated and ready for customisation & animation
Standard walk, run, jump, fight, die, etc.
Separate special deaths; fire, electrocution, etc
Separate special moves for heros
Separate weapon / clothing / upgrade packs
The original vectors will be included, as always.
With a little effort, you should be able to customise the characters in your favourite vector program quite easily so that your game does not look too generic with stock characters - possibly a good subject for a tutorial in the future.
I just started working on my free character sets this week but should have the first packs for a hero and some villains posted on Monday - let me know what characters you'd like in my game asset suggestions blog post and I'll add the most popular suggestions to my work list for future characters.

@openstockproject You are an amazing artist! I can barely do simple geometric shapes. I used to use a square (usually blue) for a character and a black square for the walls, but now I have your art! I highly appreciate all that you've done! I am curious, though. Why do you give your art out for free when you could make so much money off of it? Don't get me wrong, I like getting it for free, but is that you're just an overall nice person?
Yeah I would really love to know - it was an amazing resource! Even if new files aren't uploaded, it would be great to at least be able to access old files.
For those who haven't noticed, there was no updates for the past 6 months on that site and the comment section filled up with spam which was never deleted so for one reason or the other the site was abandonded at that time by the admin. His other site for music (zippytracks) is also shutdown.
Since everyone keep commenting, this thread keeps coming up to the top of the forum making it seem current. Apparently, the site has been unresponsive for months, so we must come to the conclusion that it is no longer in service. I have some art on my site. Not much right now, but it's all COMPLETELY FREE - NO ATTRIBUTION. Check it out if you wish http://www.freegameart.net

Putting a delay on tomorrows tutorial - working on a special Illustrator / Photoshop animation series instead.
Might even do them as a video tutorial series.....
