    @zweg25‌

    Short answer would be yes.

    Long answer

This project is my open source project that I have been working on in my spare time. Right now it is just me and one other guy working on this in our spare time.

Excellent stuff, @BlackCloackGS - I'd help if I knew more than middleweight BASIC! Hope it all comes together nicely.

@BlackCloakGS your commitment to GS and the community is impressive, you give way more than you get paid to do. It doesn't go unnoticed. Awesome.

I too would love to help but lack the skills to do more than some basic VBA and get existing code in other languages to work for my projects and business. I love coding and if I was coming out of school now I would make computer programming my career.

Awesome, what can we do to help?

@zweg25 currently in need help coding. Adding additional platforms and more joysticks.
I currently have mappings for Xbox 360, Logitech Duel Stick, and Steel Series Free Controllers , and Playstation 3 (which I will be adding soon). See how mappings are added here (it a little hard right now i need to create a program to make it easier)

I am almost done with android about 80% done, but I still have iOS, Windows, and Linux left.

I also have a task list here.

    This is great news..

I wish I could help, but I don't code. I'll poke around and see if there might be some caring volunteers interested in pitching in..

I sure could use this in about August, otherwise I'm looking at a rebuild in another engine.

Super happy to hear that. Don't forget OUYA and Amazon gamepads.

So how would this work? Is this something that will be added to a future build or can we somehow use that library from GameSalad?

  • Thunder_ChildThunder_Child Member Posts: 2,343

A Logitech G-13 or an N-52 should work just fine as joystick as they are keyboard emulators.

  • BlackCloakGSBlackCloakGS Member, PRO Posts: 2,250

@ookami007‌ the plan is when i get the lib to a point where it supports , Mac (99% done) , iOS(0% done) , and Android(60% done) I will be releasing it in a nightly build of GameSalad. I think the first pass with just be dpad and buttons. They will map to iCade key pressing to make it easy to support for existing games. Eventually we will have a GUI that you can add when joystick button is press just like key pressed is done. There is no time frame for this since I am working on the Joystick lib in my free time.

@blackcloakGS does this translate to iOS controller support? Possibly fire tv? Or is this different?

I use sixaxis controller app from Google Play. But it would be awesome as the controller support is already built-in. I would like to bump this thread!

  • jay2dxjay2dx Member Posts: 611

I just use joy to key for testing! but until we are able / "if ever" to publish an exe for windows or mac distribution what's the point of having controller input!

also does anyone other than GS people use the arcade here! I would really like to see some statists of its usage/traffic.

@scottharrrules43 update was I finally got the code to detect joysticks on android with out using java (quite a lot of work ). I was able to test that the code does work with the Amazon Fire TV and it does detect the remote and controller correctly. I have not had time to work much on this do to moving houses in my free time and getting ready for iOS 8 support at GameSalad. Hope get back to the lib in my free time soon.

@jay2dx joy to key is windows only and not open source. Both Android and iOS support joysticks and with Mac as well that is 50% of our publishing targets.
