GameSalad and Steam -- let's make this happen!

Hey folks,

For some time now we've been working towards supporting native PC builds and we've hinted at true Steam integration. As part of that process, we're announcing our candidacy for President of the United States err, I mean Steam Greenlight.

Please vote "Yes" for us on Steam and help us get GameSalad in the Steam store and share with your friends and colleagues:

The more buzz we can get on this Greenlight, the easier it will be for us to get Valve's attention and approval for full SDK integration and promotion of GS user games.

Bowlboy thanks you for your support!

Do you guys (Game Salad) think you'll enable Steam Workshop sharing?

I think we'd want to support as much as people had a strong demand for, but the first things would be achievements, items, DLC and joystick/big picture support.

Voted and tweeted. Proper .exe and steam SDK integration are some of the things I want most!

@dgackey Oh, I mean would the Game Salad App itself have its own associated Steam Workshop, like for us to share Game Salad code snippets and templates.
(Though if I could wishlist a certain Steam API thing to integrate to the app it would be Steam Cards.)

    Oh, that would be interesting!

We'd have to make a few changes to the object system to support that, but @BlackCloakGS and I have had many discussions about this and we absolutely need to be able to make GS objects portable (copy-and-paste-able), so this is certainly in the realm of possibility.

Yes this would be huge not just for steam but being able to work in teams

Not only teams, but individually. I have no idea what all is available in the Spare Code Dump thread. I haven't been to the template marketplaces, but I assume I need to make/manage a new account for each one. I'd expect significantly increased productivity from the communtiy due to the ease of access/findability of... 'creative commons' assets? Open source? I dunno what to call the stuff people have made publically available. The Steam Workshop is more familiar to me as a place to give and get. I'm almost certain to use something like that where I still have yet to get around to the existing stockpiles.

Keep it up, folks. I want to stress that it is REALLY important that you engage as much and as professionally as possible to demonstrate high interest levels.

We've received feedback that Valve tends to measure the value of non-game tools like ours based on "the number of developers who inquire and ask us for it on the platform" and because the vast majority of GS developers are aspiring / amateur developers and hobbyists, they may be overlooking the size and quality of our community.

Let's make sure we don't get overlooked :)

Considering that I have greenlit game made with GameSalad, this makes me super happy.

But one bit in Greenlight trailer is confusing. The list of platforms for export in trailer doesn't include PC/Steam.

Currently you can't create native-PC/Steam games in GameSalad, so it's not listed. We do hope to provide that feature in the near future, though.

Ok! Then our gamesalad game cannot make it to steam?

You can, but it currently requires third-party tools to wrap the HTML5 in an EXE, and being accepted via Greenlight. They can't claim to provide a path onto Steam yet, given those outside requirements.

You can convert an HTML5 file to an .exe. It's not perfect, but that's better than nothing.
@jonmulcahy currently has a game made with GS that he's trying to get to Steam forums.gamesalad.com/discussion/89397/vote-for-a-long-way-home-on-steam-greenlight#latest

Does exporting to Steam allow us to make exes of our games?
